 Dane Bullerwell graduated from law school at the University of Alberta in 2009. Since graduation, Dane has practiced exclusively in the area of defending individuals who face criminal charges and other serious allegations. Dane has represented persons charged with a wide variety of offences, including:
• Assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and aggravated assault;
Theft, fraud and mischief
• Impaired driving, driving while disqualified, and related offences
• Possession of controlled substances, including possession for the purposes of trafficking
• Criminal harassment, uttering threats, and breaching Emergency Protection Orders; and
• Provincial regulatory, public health and driving offences, such as offences under the Wildlife Act, Animal Protection Act, and Traffic Safety Act.
Dane has also helped other members of the firm with a variety of files, including assisting with homicide cases, preparing appeals to higher courts, and assisting with professional discipline matters heard before administrative tribunals.
During law school, Dane volunteered extensively with Student Legal Services of Edmonton, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance to the low-income community in Edmonton and surrounding areas. He served as the Criminal Law Coordinator with Student Legal Services and was responsible for supervising the hundreds of criminal law cases handled by Student Legal Services. Dane currently sits on the Board of Directors of Student Legal Services.
Dane was on the Dean’s List each year of law school, and he graduated from law school third in his class. He was awarded the Judges’ Bronze Medal in Law, as well as the Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association award for the highest mark in his Evidence course and the Anthony Cairo Memorial Prize for achievement in his Professional Responsibility course.
Before joining the firm, Dane served as a law clerk with the Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmonton, where he performed legal research for the justices of the court, and where he had the opportunity to assist the court in a variety of criminal law matters. He completed his articling term with Pringle, MacDonald & Bottos, articled to Mr. Pringle.
