Dan graduated from the University of Alberta in April of 2004 and articled under Alex Pringle. While attending law school, Dan developed an interest in criminal law, focusing on criminal law courses throughout his academic career. He was also involved with the moot program and was selected to the Alberta Court of Appeal Moot Team. He was actively involved with Student Legal Services and went on to sit as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Student Legal Services.
Dan is currently an Associate with our firm and has direct experience with a variety of criminal charges, including: impaired driving, impaired driving causing death, assault, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, attempted murder, murder, fraud, extortion, criminal harassment, trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and a variety of other charges.
He has been successful in advancing Charter arguments in both the Alberta Provincial Court and the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench.
He has appeared in front of the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Dan has also been actively involved with the Alberta Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association for the past 5 years. He currently sits as Secretary of the organization and this is his second year on the Board of Directors. He was honoured to receive the Bruce Gunn Junior Barrister Award from the Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association in 2008.
Dan also brings with him a wide and varied background. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a Business Degree in 1996, he went on to work as a Labour Relations Consultant and Union Organizer. He continued with his education and became certified as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and worked as a Network Administrator. Finally, he spent a year working for the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency before entering law school in 2001.
