Barbara Dowker completed a Bachelors of Art Honours Degree in Psychology at MacEwan University in 2014 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alberta in 2019. She is currently completing her articles under Michael Sparks.
Prior to pursuing a legal career, Barbara worked in the social work field where she worked as a caseworker for both youth in Child and Family Services and Federal offenders at a halfway house. This work inspired Barbara to become a lawyer and represent those who don’t have a voice.
While at law school, Barbara was involved with Student Legal Services. She assisted people with limited-means with summary conviction matters. This passion for helping those in need encouraged Barbara to complete a practicum in her second year with Legal Aid Family Law office. Through out her year long practicum she was able to gain insight into family law to compliment her true passion for criminal law.
Barbara was also employed as a summer student at the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s Office, where she learned about the other side of criminal law.
Barbara looks forward to helping you navigate the justice system and advocating on your behalf.
