Tania Shapka

Tania was called to the bar in 2017. After finishing law school, she clerked at the Alberta Court of King’s Bench and completed her articles at a distinguished criminal law firm in Edmonton. She conducts both criminal trial and appeal work, with a particular interest in Charter litigation and the intersection between mental health and the criminal law. In 2023, Tania joined Pringle Law to work with Daniel J. Song, focusing on complex litigation, legal research, and appeals.

Tania completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta, where she received her Bachelor of Science with Specialization in Psychology with distinction. She graduated from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law in 2016 with distinction. During law school, Tania was on the Dean’s List and a member of the Alberta Law Review Editorial Board. She volunteered extensively with Student Legal Services, a student-run legal clinic assisting low-income individuals, and served as the SLS Criminal Law Project Coordinator. Following law school, Tania had the pleasure of acting as an advising lawyer to Student Legal Services students between 2018 and 2023.

Tania is a member of the Alberta Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association (CTLA) and sits on the CTLA’s appellate intervention committee. She has presented at Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA) seminars on criminal law topics, and is a contributing author to the CanLII Criminal Law Ebook. She also volunteers with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre.

Prior to law school, Tania was a member of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers where she had the opportunity to perform nationally and internationally.
